Brake Systems

One of the most overlooked parts of a car during modification, yet arguably the most important. We typically recommend brake upgrades as the very first components to tackle when getting into modifying cars. A proper braking system should be more capable than the limits of your chassis, drivetrain, and own personal driving skills. Nothing is worse or more dangerous than surpassing the limits and not being prepared for what follows.  

The basics of braking systems have not changed much since ABS started becoming popular. Computers have become far more advanced over time, but the mechanics and hydraulics of a modern disc braking system are mostly the same sort of parts. You still have a master cylinder at the top, connected to the brake pedal. Along with the brake booster, this provides incredibly high amount of hydraulic pressure in the lines that go to a caliper on each wheel (sometimes a floating caliper, sometimes fixed caliper), which work together in careful proportion to slow and stop your vehicle

More exotic materials (silicon carbide, carbon brakes, etc.) are becoming more prevalent and obtainable for the hardcore enthusiast racer, which are helping reduce brake fade, increase performance, and provide significant unsprung weight reduction. Who knew that a fancy set of brakes could actually make you go faster?!

  • XAT 2GS LS460 Brake Caliper Brackets for Lexus GS300 GS400 GS430 1GS LS400 etc. and Hardware

    Pictures show the RWD K17 type caliper being used. The AWD N18 caliper has the same bolt pattern, but the caliper sits taller on the rotor. As such, the N18 version will not work with the IS-F rotor. You'll need to stick to the K17 type.

    In our continuing support of Lexus performance products and the UZ platform, we have finished this set of ZINC CHROMATED brackets to mount LS460 / LS600h or LS500 brake calipers to any GS300, GS400, GS430, SC430, and many others!

    These brackets are ideal for those DIYers that are looking for an inexpensive option for brake upgrades. You keep your factory brake lines in this bolt-on solution; all you need is a set of front 2007-2018 LS460, LS460L, LS600h, or even the new 2019+ LS500 fixed 4 piston brake calipers, LS460 fitment pads, and a set of 2008-2014 IS-F 14" rotors!

    Although the roll center adjusters aren't mandatory, they provide a bolt on solution. You do not have to run them, though if you do not, you may need to modify the mounting hardware. They will improve the suspension geometry on lowered cars at any rate, so we highly recommend them.

    Please note that the LS460 does NOT use 5x114.3 rotors, so you will NOT be able to bolt on the LS460 rotor. We do not have fitment confirmation on the larger LS460 F-Sport 6 piston Brembo brakes, though they may also fit when used with larger rotors

    Additionally, you will most likely need 18" wheels to fit over these. The only 18s we have found to not fit so far are some Enkei RPF1s. We cannot make any promises on what else will not fit, however every other 18" wheel we have tried does fit over these brakes, including factory X-Runner wheels, Enkei NT03+, G35 Ray's wheels, etc.

    After the surprise success of our 2GS/SC430 brake adapters, we've started development on an IS300 version as well! These brackets let you bolt on 4 piston LS460 calipers to your IS300 / Altezza, making an inexpensive but VERY effective brake update option! Thanks to Toyota parts interchangeability, that means they also fit Chaser, Cresta, Crown, Mark 2, Progres, and Verossa chassis'!

    We are not able to source powdercoated calipers at this time, you will need to have them coated locally. Please note this upgrade is meant for off road use only.     Us 5 lug Tacoma owners really get the short end of the stick. The 6 lug 4WD trucks all got a decent 4 piston brake setup, whereas our rotors are almost the same size as the Camry! Within millimeters! This issue is compounded for X-Runner guys, especially with boost on top.

    From the success of our brake kits for the RWD Lexus cars (GS, SC, LS, etc), we have adapted and implemented a similar complete bolt on kit for the 2005-2015 Tacoma 2WD trucks, including X-Runner, excluding PreRunner. All 5 lug trucks.

    Calipers are sourced from a 2007-2020 LS460, LS460L, LS600h, and even the new LS500 4 piston fronts, RWD non-sport package K17 style (not N18). We typically source brand new OEM Lexus/Advics. 

    We typically prefer the Posi-Quiet Centric/Stoptech pads, as they have excellent street performance and are not unnecessarily loud/squeaky once properly bedded in. Other options are available as well, if you prefer.

    For discs, we typically use off-the-shelf preferred Centric/StopTech 2008-2014 IS-F 360mm (14.1 inch) rotors. They come cross drilled from the factory (just like the IS-F rotors are), though we have other bolt on options as well if you're going for a different style or preference. We've not heard of any issues with rotor cracking like some other aftermarket applications have reported.

    Additionally, you will most likely need 18" wheels to fit over these. The only 18s we have found to not fit so far are some Enkei RPF1s and IS250/IS350 F Sport front wheels.   • XAT Racing 2GS Rear Brake Brackets for LS430 Calipers on GS400 GS300 GS430 SC430

    You've asked for it, so here it is! At long last, a viable rear brake upgrade solution to go with our front LS460 brake option!!

    Fitment confirmed on all 2GS cars, including:

    • 1998-2005 GS300
    • 1998-2000 GS400
    • 2001-2005 GS430
    • 1997-2006 Aristo
    • 2001-2010 SC430
    • 1998-2005 European and JDM IS200/IS300 (not USDM)

    With these adapter brackets, you will also need:

    • 2001-2006 Lexus LS430 rear calipers
    • 2001-2006 Lexus LS430 rear brake pads and hardware kit
    • 1993-1998 Toyota Supra twin turbo rear rotors

    And that's it! You can reuse factory brake lines, though we strongly recommend going with stainless braided lines for your application. Our brackets include mounting hardware, though you will also need the radial mount bolts for the caliper, which we have made an option as well. The factory Toyota/Lexus bolts aren't cheap, but they're perfectly suited for the task. They're thick, use rolled threads (instead of cut threads), and even come with thread locker pre-applied. Even if you plan on sourcing the rest of the kit yourself, we strongly recommend getting the caliper mount bolts from us at the same time at least

    Please note you may need to shorten the caliper mount bolts ~1/16" for fitment. This otherwise is a bolt on kit.

    Fits all 2GS cars (1998-2005 GS300, GS400, GS430), SC430, and 1998-2005 European and JDM IS200/IS300. May also fit others though this is unconfirmed. Most likely will not fit LS chassis. Does not fit 1GS cars (1992-1997 Aristo, GS300) or USDM IS300 2001-2005 without modifications to the bracket. We cannot accept returns on modified parts.   • StopTech Stainless Braided Brake Lines for X-Runner 2005-2015 Tacoma 5 lug

    Fits factory brakes as well as our LS460 big brake upgrade kit!

    Improve vehicle brake performance and feel with Stoptech Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines.

    Stoptech Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines provide a quicker, firmer, more consistent pedal response by maintaining consistent brake pressure. Additionally, stainless steel lines provide precision brake modulation, especially during threshold braking. The improvement in pedal feel is more dramatic on older vehicles where the factory rubber line may have softened and swelled due to age.

    StopTech brake lines consist of a PTFE (commonly referred to as Teflon) inner line that carries the brake fluid, which is then covered with a layer of stainless steel woven braid. The PTFE  tube is very resistant to expansion under pressure and will not degrade from exposure to brake fluid.

    The braided stainless steel provides support for the PTFE and the weave is extremely durable against incidental impact and abrasion. Next the stainless braided hose is coated with a clear abrasion resistant PVC cover for maximum protection against chaffing and strain relief devices reinforce end fittings.

    A variety of end fittings are available to meet most application needs. All fittings are engineered for proper fit and durability. All necessary brackets and fasteners are included with each line kit.

    *Coated Teflon inner core*

    StopTech is a registered brake line manufacturer with the United States DOT and all StopTech Stainless Steel Brake Lines are manufactured to meet DOT Compliance Standards. StopTech Stainless Steel lines also meet or exceed FMVSS 106 and applicable international and EU standards.

  • XAT Wilwood Front Brake Brackets Supra SC300 2GS GS300 LS400 SC430

    We at XAT have developed an intermediary brake kit that slots just below the LS460 big brake kit that we sell! As we've discovered, the LS460 brake kit combo requires a minimum of 18" wheel, and some 18"s also will not fit. It's easy to recognize the fast growing popularity of JDM vehicles we grew up loving now being imported, as we have a hand in doing that as well!

    This kit is specifically designed to use MkIV Supra TT rotors, meaning you only need 17" wheels to clear these brakes, giving an extra option for those looking to keep with period correct wheels and wheel sizes. Although we dont have a complete list of every wheel this kit will fit, if you suspect the LS460 kit may be too big for you, this is a terrific alternative, using OEM quality and Wilwood brand parts!

    The steering arm and caliper may need to be modified on your setup to fit this brake kit, depending on application, if youre not using an angle kit. This had to be done on our zenki '89-92 UCF10 Celsior to fit, as well as our '96 Crown JZS155. Expect similar requirements on X90s and early X100s, likely on GS/Aristo as well. We have provided pictures of where we had to modify the caliper to fit.

We have shown pictures of where the caliper needed to be modified to fit properly.

  • XAT Crown OEM Front Brake Upgrade JZS151 JZS155

    Not everyone is looking to go wild with their car! We offer this as a simple bolt on solution for those with the 10th generation hardtop Crown (JZS151, GS151, JZS155, etc.) or RWD Crown Majesta (JZS155, UZS151, UZS157) who will be fine with just OEM style brakes.

    Please note that we have not found a 100% direct replacement for the hardtop stock rotors. With this kit, you may need spacers to fit. You should still be able to fit the factory JZS155 15" wheels, however we have not confirmed fitment yet.

    You've asked for it, so here it is! At long last, a viable rear brake upgrade solution to go with our front LS460 brake option!! A full bolt on 100% complete kit!

    With these adapter brackets, you will also need:

    • 2001-2006 Lexus LS430 rear calipers
    • 2001-2006 Lexus LS430 rear brake pads and hardware kit
    • 1993-1998 Toyota Supra twin turbo rear rotors

    And that's it! You can reuse factory brake lines, though we strongly recommend going with stainless braided lines for your application. Our brackets include mounting hardware, though you will also need the radial mount bolts for the caliper, which we have made an option as well. The factory Toyota/Lexus bolts aren't cheap, but they're perfectly suited for the task. They're thick, use rolled threads (instead of cut threads), and even come with thread locker pre-applied. Even if you plan on sourcing the rest of the kit yourself, we strongly recommend getting the caliper mount bolts from us at the same time at least

    Please note you may need to shorten the caliper mount bolts ~1/16" for fitment. This otherwise is a bolt on kit.

    Fits all 2GS cars (1998-2005 GS300, GS400, GS430), SC430, and 1998-2005 European and JDM IS200/IS300. May also fit others though this is unconfirmed. Most likely will not fit LS chassis. Does not fit 1GS cars (1992-1997 Aristo, GS300) or USDM IS300 2001-2005 without modifications to the bracket. We cannot accept returns on modified parts. These brackets let you bolt on 4 piston LS460 calipers to your IS300 / Altezza, making an inexpensive but VERY effective brake update option!     In our continuing support of Lexus performance products and the UZ platform, we have finished this set of brackets to mount 4 piston LS460 / LS600h brake calipers to any USDM IS300 2000-2005!

    This kit is ideal for those DIYers that are looking for an inexpensive option for brake upgrades. You keep your factory brake lines in this bolt-on solution; all you need is a set of front 2007-2018 LS460, LS460L, LS500, or LS600h fixed 4 piston brake calipers, LS460 fitment pads, and a set of 2008-2014 IS-F14" rotors!

    This kit includes everything you need for a full bolt on installation for your front brakes!

    • Brand new Lexus OEM Calipers

    Additionally, you will most likely need 18" wheels to fit over these. The only 18s we have found to not fit so far are some Enkei RPF1s and IS250/IS350 F Sport front wheels. We cannot make any promises on what else will not fit, however every other 18" wheel we have tried does fit over these brakes, including factory X-Runner wheels, Enkei NT03+, G35 Ray's wheels, etc.

  • XAT Crown Chaser Rear 2nd Caliper Hand Brake Bracket LS460

    Fully delete your stock drum rear e-brake and run an independent hydraulic hand brake on your drift car! Excellent for those with Crowns, Mark IIs, Crestas, and Chasers with foot emergency brake setups that are looking to get sideways with a big upgrade!

    The caliper used is the factory rear 2 piston LS460 caliper from the non-sport, RWD cars. They are marked A16 in the casting. Be sure you have the correct ones!

    This kit works with both our rear Wilwood FSL rear upgrade kit. You will need to run our upgrade kit due to this using the larger Supra TT rear rotor. This will NOT fit a stock rear brake setup. You will also be replacing the factory drum e-brake entirely with this, so you will not be able to reuse that.

  • LS430 OEM Rear Caliper Mount Bolts

    You may find it difficult to source the correct mounting hardware for the LS430 rear calipers, being radial mounted. Instead of trying to hunt down hardware that works, we stock OEM Lexus hardware to mount them using our adapters. Thick, strong, and even include thread locker already pre-installed!
